Christmas Food Tradition's Around The World

Today I learnt that in Britain it is a Christmas tradition to give plum pudding to Santa on Christmas Eve night. Did you know this?

Can you tell me some more Christmas food traditions from around the world?

Christmas Round The World

We are learning about Christmas traditions around the world. Today I learned that in France children leave their shoes in front of the fire place on Christmas Eve. When they wake up they find that they are full of presents from Farther Christmas or what they call Pere Noel. French tradition say that it is actually the Christ Child who fill the shoes with gifts.

Can you tell me some other Christmas traditions from around the world?

The Goblin Fail!

In literacy we are focusing on writing a story with an unexpected twist. First we drew a picture of what we think will happen next. This is my story I hope you enjoy.

The Goblin Fail!

Cccrreakk! went the floorboard as the goblin crept silently towards the kitten. He didn’t dare move a muscle as he feared that he might start something that he couldn’t finish. He waited to see if the kitten would awaken, but it lay as still as a rock. A few more steps and he would be in reach of the cute marshmallow looking kitten...

As the wicked beast crept silently towards the kitten his heart raced like a cheetah in the jungle. He didn’t know what to expect. The kitten could be a secret spy or a ninja. The closer and closer he got the more terrified he got. At last he was in reach of the kitten.

Just when the goblin was about to sweep up the kitten it jumped into action. It frantically grabbed the goblins long bushy beard and dragged him out the door. As the kitten slammed the door shut he could hear the goblin screaming and whining to come back in, but the kitten doesn’t hesitate he goes straight back to dreaming about playing with his fluffy yarn balls.

Goodbye Old School Hello New School

For literacy the past week we have been doing a Te Manu Tukutuku poem. In our poem we had to add our five senses. Our five senses are see, smell, hear, touch and what we feel like emotionally. We also had to add some similes and alliteration. This is my poem.

Goodbye Old School Hello New School

Then I felt trapped like a dog in a kennel, now I feel free like a bird soaring high through the sky.
Then I felt puzzled like a gorilla in a cage, now I feel welcome like a cat on a couch.

Then I heard the ringing of the bell like an obnoxious christmas tune , now I hear the song Happy by Pharrell Williams, such a better tune.

Then I saw Smiler Sam, now instead I see Wonder Weka.
Then I saw lots of grass like an overgrown jungle, now I see a scooter track… here come lots of trouble.

Then I smelt dust like an old abandoned house, now I smell the fresh smell like a growing daisy.

Then I felt the ground all bumpy like the mountains, now smooth and hard like a straight open road.

I feel so lucky to be at this magical magnificent marvelous school.

Day 7 Keeping New Zealand Beautiful

Day 7 Keeping New Zealand Beautiful
The challenging thing about today was what to say in my video.
The best bit about today was that I got to do the thing I love again, Travelling!

Love Flower

Love Flower
Recently Ponui O Toka have been working on logos. First we had to study on what a logo was. Then we did so doddle's in our project books for are personal logo but today we just went straight onto the design app and created what ever we wanted to!  Once we had made our design we had to make a quality blog post on our design. So this is my design. It is a Love Flower! You are probably wondering what is a love flower? I chose the name love flower because I made the petals out of love hearts. And I think that the love flower represents my love for my family! So this is my Love Flower I hope you enjoy!

Robotics

This term I have been doing Robotics every Tuesday afternoon. We had to learn how to program a robot to move. First we had to connect a special cord from the Mack book to the robot. Then we had to go onto a app on the Mack book and put in coordinates. Most of the time the coordinates didn't work so we had to go back and keep persisting. The robot was an EV3 Lego Mindset robot that we had to build as a group. The bit I found the most challenging was that we had to try and get the correct coordinate to be able to move on. The easiest bit was that my group knew what to do and when things went wrong. When we got onto the last maze on the second try my group succeeded. I love doing robotics it is awesome.

Day 6 Learning Journey

Native Aotearoa
Today I found my poem challenging because I wanted to make it good and make it rhyme but it was quite difficult.
My favourite activity was actually writing my poem because it improved my writing skills.

Uru Manuka Logo Design

Lately we have been doing an Uru Manuka logo design to enter in a huge competition. First we had to find out what Uru Manuka means and talk to each other about it. Then we all went off and started doing some doddle's in our project book. It took me about seven different attempts just to find out if I wanted to do a tree or not! Then finally after maybe 1 week I found the perfect design. After I had found my perfect design I added some colour. I chose the colours based on what they meant. After that I created my logo online and perfected it. This is my logo that I am super proud of.

Swimming With The Sharks #4

Day 4 Swimming With The Sharks
Today it was challenging because lots of the link were not working.
I know that the beached whale activity has inspired me to help out in the community whenever I have the chance to.
This is my work and I am proud of it!

Why We Need To Use Netiquette!

Kia Ora my name is Phoebe and I will be teaching you about netiquette (Online Etiquette). Some people think that just because they are online that they can go ahead and say awful things. But they don't realise that there is actually someone behind the screen. So this is why we should use netiquette.

Voki

Today I learnt about Voki. Elham and Milan from Gilberthorpe school taught me how to do this. First we had to create a new character and then we could choose if it was a boy or girl, I choose boy. Can you guess who I choose? He is famous. Have you guessed? Well it is Donald Trump! I decided to edit him I hope you enjoy.   By the way the word "enjoy" is the link to it.

My Amazing Robot

For the past 6 weeks every Tuesday my group and I have been learning about robotics. First of all we had to sit down and how to make the robot move. Once we had done that we got a tool kit and had to build the robot, this process was hard. It took three weeks just to build it! After we had built the robot we had to plug this spacial cord into the computer and the robot and program it with different numbers to make it go.
This is my robot I hope you enjoy and also it would be great if you could comment on my blog!

Phoebe's Ice-Block Pie Graph

On Thursday the 17th of August Room 6 got an Ice-Block and there were three different flavours:
Lime (Green), Raspberry (Pink) and Lemonade (White).

Since we had been learning about graphs lately we decided that we would graph it.
First we got into colour order so pink would sit in one corner, green would sit in one corner and white would sit in the other.  My personal favourite is lime so I choose green. I wonder What your favourite flavour is?

  1. Green Is the most popular
  2. Pink and white are the same in popularity.

It would be great if you could tell me in the comments and remember Positive, Helpful and Thoughtful comments. See you later bloggers!

Bliss Balls

Bliss Balls   7/8/2017
Ever seen, felt and smelt something that you thought was amazing but then a plot twist happens? Well that is what happened to me in literacy today. We were making Bliss Balls. Now you are probably wondering, What the heck is a Bliss Ball? Well my friend a bliss ball is a healthy truffle like ball. It is made out of Sultanas or Raisins, Oats, Cocoa, Coconut and Coconut Oil.

The bliss balls looked like lumps of chocolate waiting to get inside my mouth. The bliss ball looked squished up like banana. The bliss ball looked rough like a rocky mountain. It looked absolutely glorious. It was to die for.

When I felt the bliss ball it felt squishy like gooey slime. The bliss ball felt sticky like glue. When the bliss ball rolled around on my hand the coconut felt rough like bark on a tree. It felt moist like a used damp towel.

The bliss ball smelt like pure dark chocolate about to be gone. The bliss ball smelt mouth watering like a nice refreshing ice-block. The coconut smelt like a glorious lamington. This ball smelt like something you’ve never smelt before. It smelt like heaven.

Then the time had come it was time to taste the bliss ball that looked, smelt and felt amazing and glorious. I bit into the bliss ball with high anticipation. Then all of a sudden (bite) the raisins are so juicy. It tasted absolutely disgusting. It was sickening like a five month old block of cheese. It was so chewy like uncooked steak. It tasted like a complete disappointment. It tasted like something people eat from the garbage. It tasted like poison, I hated it. I definitely regret it.

Number Of The Week

In maths each week Mrs Mcguinniety gives us a new number of the week. This week are number was 3298 three thousand two hundred and ninety eight. For my learning object it is a screencastify. There are nine different slides but in this screencastify I am only showing one slide which is rounding to the nearest ten and rounding to the nearest hundred. I would love it if you could comment on my blog.

Power Time Growth And Fixed Mindset

During Power Time we have been learning about growth mindset. We watched a video about Luke Sky Walker and Yoda lifting an X-Wing out of the lake. Luke had a fixed mindset. A fixed mindset is where you complain about not wanting to do things and not trying. Yoda taught him how to have a growth mindset. A Growth Mindset is where you want to do lots of work and take it to the next level. We talked about what we could say to ourselves to change from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. Here is my D.L.O.

My Rainy Day

W.A.L.T Use crayon and dye to show movement and ripples in a weather feature.
We have been learning about the weather so we did a rainy day art. First we got white crayon and did rain drops, spirals and a line across the middle to show the line between the concrete and the sky. Next if we wanted to we drew a rainbow and colored it in so hard so that it would still show when we put the dye on. Then we went to the dyeing station to put on the rainy miserable colors.

My Emperor Penguin

W.A.L.T Use paint to create they effect of feathers.
We have been learning about Antarctica so we decided to do a penguin and paint it. First we sketched they outline of the penguin very lightly. Next we did some black paint on it to make the effect of feathers. Then we did the orange, yellow and white paint that is on top of the blubber. After that we did some white paint on top of the black to make some grey shading and did the green for the eye.

Antarctica Information Report

W.A.L.T: Create 2 pieces of writing about the topic you have chosen.
I have been learning about weather and climate and this is my information report.

    The White Continent
Antarctica is the coldest, whitest, most amazing place on earth.
Some people go there to study the life cycles of animals. It is a very interesting place.

The climate of Antarctica is the coldest on Earth! The lowest air temperature was on the 21st of July 1983. The temperature was -89.2 C. This is very cold compared to what we get!
Antarctica is so dry that scientists believe that it is a desert! It hardly ever rains in Antarctica. Antarctica is fascinating. Most of the snow that we see isn't just falling it is getting blown around in the wind.
Antarctica has katabatic winds just like us but… when we have katabatic winds they come from the mountains and give us warmth. In Antarctica they come from the mountains that are covered in  ice and brings bone-chilling cold.
Antarctica is 25% bigger than Europe. It is the least polluted of all continents. Antarctica is bigger than New Zealand by about 40,000 sq. miles.
Antarctica has two main areas, East Antarctica and West Antarctica. They are separated by the mountains. West Antarctica is the smallest of both of them, because of all the ice Antarctica is the highest out of all the continents.
Subantarctic - WikipediaIn my opinion Antarctica is a one of a kind extraordinary place to be in. I also think that it is very cold . I would love to go there someday and find out what it is like to be there.

Antarctica Description

W.A.L.T: Create 2 pieces of writing about the topic you have chosen.

The Brilliant Blizzard
Jun 13, 2017 11:52:00 AM.jpgThe most important, whitest, windiest and iciest place in the world is… Antarctica. Antarctica is a very fascinating place. The white, and the ice just makes me wonder about the history and how everything just came to what it is now. Antarctica used to be at the top of the world but throughout    the years it came to the very bottom.

antarctica-map.gif | Eli Duke | FlickrAntarctica sounds like people are right next to you whistling so loud into your ear. The ice of Antarctica sounds like a cold crackling fire. The ocean sounds like heavy splashes of water into your drink. The crashing icebergs sound like bags of ice getting smashed by a hammer. It sounds so amazing. Antarctica is the best place in the world.

File:Icebergs in the Lemaire Channel, Antarctica.jpg - Wikimedia ...Antarctica feels like frostbite is nipping the end of your toes off. Antarctica feels like you're sleeping outside in a pool on a cold winter's night. Antarctica feels like you are a snowball and the cold never stops. Here in NZ when it is winter we think it is quite cold but you should feel what it's like in Antarctica. In the summer here we have the sun stretching fiery fingers down on us and it is just amazing but down in Antarctica it is sunlight all the time but it is still freezing.

Antarctica looks like the biggest mountains covered in hundreds of snow layers. The snow is the whitest thing you have ever seen. The colors are like the most beautiful things ever. It just makes me speechless.

In my opinion Antarctica feels freezing and bone-chilling. Sounds extraordinary and mind blowing. Looks amazing and the best place in the world.

LadyBugs

We have been learning about insects and information reports.

Plan
They eat aphids
4,300 kind in the world
Smell with feet and antennae
Jaw chews side to side not up and down
Spots fade when getting older
Most active when body is 75 degrees or warmer
Bright color warns bird it does not taste good
When flying wings beat 85 times every second
400 different kinds in North America
Females are bigger than males

LadyBugs
Insects are odd but unique little creatures but if you want to read about the prettiest one of them all then read my story about a… LadyBug.

Have you ever wondered how many kinds there are? Well now you don't have to because there are 4,300 different kinds in the world. Isn't that interesting? Did you know that the lady bug smells out of its feet and antennae.

Us humans like eating and so do ladybugs.
We eat things like apples, pasta, etc, but ladybugs eat aphids. Instead of their jaws going up and down when they chew like us their jaws chew side to side.

When we get older we get wrinkles and can’t do as much things.Let me tell you something ladybugs don’t get wrinkles their spots fade away. Did you know that ladybugs are most active when their body temperature is 75 degrees or warm.

Bright spots warn birds that they do not taste good. When a ladybug is flying its wings beat 85 times every second.

There are 400 different kinds in North America and females are bigger than males.

I think LadyBugs are cool because there are so many different species. Their jaw chews side to side and because they are just amazing creatures.
